Setting up Android Studio on Fedora20 is a pretty fast process. First, make sure JDK and JRE are installed. Here's a good guide.

Now we're going to install Android Studio.

  1. Download the archive from the Android Studio official homepage.

  2. Change to root user

su -
  1. Extract Android-Studio package (example to /opt directory)
tar -xvzf android-studio-bundle-133.970939 -linux.tgz -C /opt`
  1. Add read permissions to all files
chmod -R +r /opt/android-studio
  1. Create Android Studio executable on /usr/bin path
touch /usr/bin/android-studio
chmod 755 /usr/bin/android-studio
vim /usr/bin/android-studio
  1. Paste the following to the file:
#!/bin/sh
export ANDROID_HOME="/opt/android-studio/bin"
$ANDROID_HOME/studio.sh $*
  1. Create GNOME desktop launcher. Create the following file with an editor.
/usr/share/applications/android-studio.desktop`

    [Desktop Entry]
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Name=Android Studio
    Comment=Android Studio 0.4.2
    Exec=android-studio
    Icon=/opt/android-studio/bin/idea.png
    Terminal=false
    Type=Application
    Categories=GNOME;Application;Development;
    StartupNotify=true
  1. Start Android Studio
android-studio

There are a few more steps required to make a launcher show up on the desktop. Have fun developing!
